Whew. Week five of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home and pulling together all the toddler room details has been interesting! I was panicking on Sunday, but I was able to pull out of it and get a lot done this week.
This week was about decals for the focal wall, finishing the ceiling scallops, more painting, organizing for the gallery wall and starting the reading corner.
At the top of the reading corner is “Goldilicious” (“Goldie”) the unicorn, and she needed a frame so I used a mirror I got at a consignment shop.
I took out the mirror, painted the frame with Benjamin Moore “white mountain peak” and BB Frosch chalk paint powder and then brushed it with gold metallic paint. It’s perfect for her!
Underneath this will be a “READ” sign and some rain gutters to hold books. They are spray painted (blush, coral and gold), but didn’t get a chance to install them yet.
This was part of what caused my breakdown: gallery wall shifting/organizing. I have to figure out what I’m using from her original nursery and what I’m adding. That’s a project I will continue and tweak this week.
Gallery wall will go here, right above the dresser I started painting.
To refresh, this was the dresser before.
I painted it with Benjamin Moore “white mountain peak” and BB Frosch chalk paint powder. I will post more about this as well as a tutorial when finish painting it. But it’s a good start, right?
I also gave the handles some love. This was the before.
I painted them with metallic gold paint I got at Target.
I didn’t paint this knob, but I may give it a little metallic boost.
And if you look real close, you can see that I also added a little gold dust, which I’m now obsessed with. It gives a beautiful shimmer, especially under artificial light at night.
And then started some metallic gold trim.
I still have some metallic gold trim and distressing to do, so will post the full reveal this week.
My hubby installed this curved shower curtain rod that I spray painted. Need to figure out the drapes. I’ve got some ideas. 😉
I started painting this lampshade (left is the color) and I’m going to add some gold IKAT dotted fabric.
And the rest of the time was spent finishing the scallops and putting up the decals, which took a lot more time than I thought it would because of all the petals on the decals.
And I loved having a little helper with the “painting.”
Oh, and how about this cute little trash can I got at an antique store?
Doll bed is primed.
I’m undecided on paint color – what do you think?
- Ivory to match the dresser
- Coral to match the ceiling
- Ivory with coral underneath/distressed
In case you missed it, my other posts and weekly progress:
Week 3: Scallop border, starting closet organization and more decisions
Week 4: “Goldilicious” unicorn makeover
And be sure to check out the other participants’ progress this week! Lots of great design inspiration.

Obsessed with this room! Amazing! I vote ivory doll bed to go with her own bed and dresser but it needs some coral pop- blanket maybe?! It will look fantastic whatever you decide!
Debby says
Thanks, girl! I agree – ivory to match the crib is probably the way to go. I had planned on making a blanket or pillow out of her baby clothes, but I doubt I will get to it this week, so I may have to just find some coral make-shift blanket for now, haha.

Debby I adore the sneak peeks and I can’t wait for the reveal! I love the direction the space is going in. As a fellow ORC participant it’s been wonderful to gather some fantastic inspiration. I’d love for you to share your progress at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Our readers would love to see it. The gathering is at http://www.decortoadore.net

Oooh, those decals turned out perfectly and the dresser looks awesome!! Can’t believe how big E is getting. She is so cute! Paint choices paralyze me with indecision, ha, so I can’t offer any help with the doll bed, but I know whatever you decide will look great! 🙂

Aw, thanks so much! I hear ya re: paint choices! You will have to send me a pic of your exterior when it’s done!

I love love love this room! Can you tell me more about the gold dust you mentioned using? Where did you get that, and how do you apply it?
Debby says
Hi! Thank you! This is what I used: http://amzn.to/2kUzydj. You just add it to the paint and brush, super easy!

I also did a post on that dresser (just remembered, haha): http://www.prettyhealthyhouse.com/chippy-glam-dresser-makeover/

Hi! Amazing work, I adore this room! I was wondering where you purchased your decals? How did you put them up so perfectly? Any tips on the glitter heart and E pieces? Were they made on canvas?
Debby says
Hi, Dee! Thank you so much! I got the decals from Byrdie Graphics https://www.etsy.com/shop/byrdiegraphics and I’ve got a blog post in the queue on how I put them up. Stay tuned! The glitter heart was a DIY (at a craft night) on wood. Do you have a cutting machine? That’s the best way to do that. The “E” I got at Marshalls, but could easily be done on a cutting machine with adhesive, too. Let me know if you have any questions!
