My Thanksgiving recap will be short and sweet since it feels like I’m already behind on Christmas. Isn’t it crazy how Christmas took forever as a kid and now it feels like it’s here in a couple days?
For the first time, I used natural/rustic elements in my tablescape. I went pine cone hunting (we baked the pine cones to get rid of sap and bugs) with my son and my daughter and I picked up some greenery (and purple!) from a nursery. I also clipped some branches and rosemary from our front yard.
For glasses, candles and candle holders, I went to World Market. And I had to get some salt and pepper shakers as well because they were gold and cute.
For the place cards, I cut a paper in thirds, hole punched them for the rosemary and then used a gold sharpie to handwrite. The napkin fold is a diamond pocket. Easy peasy.
My personal favorites from our Thanksgiving menu were the turkey (brine), mushroom stuffing (amazing!), green bean casserole (loved it with the mushrooms), apple bourbon streusel (that streusel….mmmm), and the fall sangria (I didn’t need another excuse to drink sangria, but with spices and cinnamon…sounds weird, but it was perfection for fall). And Aunt Nancy’s cranberry sauce, but that’s always my favorite.
My boys enjoyed helping with the pie decor. The octopus my four year old made didn’t make it on the pie, however. Maybe next year.
My son found this pine cone stuck to a branch and he loved that I used it in the candle box.
And that’s a wrap of my favorite holiday! And as our paster said today, the only holiday we will take with us to heaven. I had never thought of it that way!
Another year where I didn’t make a Thanksgiving tree to write and share what we are thankful for…it’s top on my list for next year!
