Every month I meet up with a few friends for “Pinterest Night,” or “PN,” where we socialize, eat, and try some Pinterest ideas. Great idea, right? I can’t take credit, it was my friend Melissa’s idea. It’s a fun thing for us to look forward to, and it forces us to consistently try some new ideas.
This month we were inspired by cut-and-paste leaves pumpkin from Good Housekeeping, the henna pumpkins from Think Crafts! and the Fall hurricanes from My Heart’s Desire.
Hurricanes
Kelly used kidney beans, popcorn and peas for her hurricane and tied it off with jute rope.

Melissa went a different route and used pine cones and some orange organic material which I should be able to identify (oops!). She used raffia ribbon to tie it off.

Ashley put hers in a vase and the leftovers in a mason jar. Anything in a mason jar always looks great! I will be stealing her idea.

I followed the My Heart’s Desire sample, but got some random corn kernels in the kidney beans. Learn from me: Be careful when pouring. I have it on my kitchen table.
I had some leftover so I did another vase for my dining room. I didn’t use enough corn on the bottom and tried to remove the peas to add more, but it didn’t work so I just mixed the peas and kidney beans so I could add more corn on top.
Pumpkins
Kelly used sequins to create her “j” (for Jensen) and tied it off with a cute bow. Love polka dots!

Melissa used metallic black puffy paint to draw her dotted swirls. It took a long time, but it was worth it because it turned out really cute.

I used the metallic black puffy paint as well, but I didn’t go all the way down because I didn’t have as much patience as Melissa.
I spent most of my time tracing and cutting tissue paper leaves with Joelle. What a job! Mine didn’t turn out as nice as the Good Housekeeping example, but I am still displaying it.
I tried outlining a few leaves with some gold glitter, but it didn’t work out (it was too thick and it would have taken five bottles of glitter glue) so I just covered it over the red leaves to give it a little bit of shimmer.
Ashley’s pumpkins turned out really cute, and I’m pretty sure hers was an original idea. She did sequins and gold glitter dots with the raffia ribbon. Loved those gold glitter dots.

I still have to finish one of my pumpkins, but here’s my display so far.
Thanks for stopping by Time to DIY!
