Aside from the magic of a lit Christmas tree, I think pillows are the best way to add warmth to a room that always makes it feel more cozy and Christmasy. But the price tag is typically a problem, especially if you’re like me and addicted to switching up decor, so I prefer to “update” my pillows rather than buy new ones. And the no-sew kind is so easy to do if you’re looking for some last-minute decor ideas.
I’m crazy about plaid and was all heart eyes for the latest Pottery Barn catalog and all its plaid goodness.
So naturally when I saw these plaid cloth napkins at Home Goods, I knew I had to do something with them!
So I decided to plaidify this pillow, which I almost donated (and am so glad I didn’t!).
I used paint and a stencil from a Michaels kit to add “joy” to the fabric. If you have a Cricut or a Silhouette Cameo, you could create your own stencil as well. For some tips on stenciling, check out my DIY polka dot curtains post.
After that I cut and hot glued it around the edges, and because I wanted a rustic feel, I left the fringe on the edges.
Then I had a couple other pillows from Costco that needed a full plaid update.
The napkin didn’t cover the entire pillow so I hot glued some burlap ribbon around the edges first.
Then I placed the napkin on top and hot glued the edges.
I did buy this ‘Merry and Bright’ pillow at Target because it was on sale so I was able to justify it.
But I like my DIY’d pillows just as much!
