Oh, this Tink costume. This was one of those ideas that sounded good, but ended up being a pain, total opposite of the Jake costume. I started taking pictures of every step with the intent of a step-by-step tutorial, but because I sewed it too small at every turn didn’t plan accordingly, my way wasn’t very efficient and I didn’t think I should memorize it. But, here are a few pics of how things got started…
This was my first mistake – not making the pattern bigger than the onesie.
But see, I tried to overcompensate for it here.
But that clearly didn’t work.
But it still fit the onesie, right? Wrong. It was way too tight for Baby Girl, so that’s when I had to do a lot of cutting and adding in that stretchy headband material, which, by the way, is great to work with. At least I had that, right? I thought it was a waste to buy the whole roll if I was just using it for her headband, but I ended up using the whole thing.
I hand stitched the sequin border at the top (shown in pics below) and used my machine for the majority of the rest.
I measured the tutu based on her pants size. Of course, the length ended up being too long, and the waist too narrow.
I cut triangles and sewed it all together at the top.
This was the headband, the easiest part.
The rest was just piecing it together…I ended up gathering the skirt a bit because it was too flat…I had to add the headband material to the back because it was too small, although I was able to do the lace-up in the back, which I liked. I found little flowers to add that I’ve had for about 15 years (see, that’s why you hang on to craft supplies – you never know!).
She doesn’t have her wings on in any of these pics (see how frazzled I was after this project?), but I will post pics of the full costume later. Later today, when we suit up in our Halloween gear.
In the end, I think it turned out okay. If you don’t think so, keep that to yourself. 😉
Happy Halloween!
