I was going to take flowers when I visited my friends and their new little guy in the hospital yesterday, but then decided a diaper cake would be a little more practical, and it’s still cute.
The baby’s nursery is navy, light green and blue and a nautical theme so I searched “nautical diaper cakes” on Pinterest (there are quite a few!) and got a few ideas. I didn’t have time to look at any tutorials so who knows if this is the correct way to put one together, but it worked.
I used cardboard and a plate to make the circle base.
I picked up the “T” ($1.29) and the whale and anchor ($0.29 each) in the wood section at Michaels, along with some ribbon.
I didn’t have the exact paint colors, but I did have a generic blue and green so I used some black to make it more navy, and some white to make the light green and light blue. I had a painting helper, too. 🙂
Next I rolled the diapers. It was a cleaner roll if I started with the top of the diaper. I secured it with a little scotch tape.
I used a large rubber band to hold the diapers together.
And then the rubber band broke. Oops!
I used 36 diapers for the bottom layer, 24 for the middle and 10 for the top, and a little hot glue on the bottom of each layer to hold it together.
Then I wrapped ribbon around each layer using some hot glue.
I started with the navy ribbon on the bottom and then put the others on top. I just used a few little drops of hot glue to hold it in place. Isn’t it great the Target diapers match the color scheme?
Then I hot glued the “T” along with the anchor and whale at the top.
A cute “cake” and lots of diapers!
Thanks for stopping by Time to DIY and have a great weekend!
