It’s birthday central here and I feel like I’m out of original cake ideas so I was excited when I saw this piece on number cakes. My little guy likes numbers so it was perfect. It didn’t turn out exactly the way I planned, but I will get to that later.
I wanted a fairly sturdy cake so used a chocolate sour cream pound cake recipe from Lick the bowl good. Little guy was excited to help!
He had his own version of “scraping the bowl”.
Of course this was his favorite part.
She cut different pieces to create the “four,” but I decided to just make one outline. The only problem with that plan was the hole in the center. I had to dig that out with a spoon.
And then pieces started falling off. It looked okay–I was positive it would all come together when I frosted it, but that was a bit of a disaster as well. There must be a trick to frosting cut cake…
I did manage to get it frosted eventually, and of course I had to include some “sprinklers”.
At least our taste tester gave it a “finger licking good” rating.
Thanks for stopping by Time to DIY!
