My friend found a patriotic fringe flag made by Craft Yourself on Pinterest and we decided to give it a whirl and make it a ribbon flag. I also had to add some lace and glitter (I can’t help myself when it comes to glitter and lace!). It’s a really easy project and great for summer decor, or year round if you want to be patriotic. Read on for all the DIY details…
We started with some scrap wood, painted it blue and then sanded it a bit to distress. We used some leftover BB Frosch chalk paint powder mixed with paint, but any craft paint will do. Next we drew a star on paper, cut and traced it, and then painted it white.
Next, cut the ribbon in strips and hot glued. I started with one color/ribbon and then layered it. All of this ribbon is currently 50 percent off at Michaels, by the way.
Then drilled holes on each side for the lace ribbon hanger. There is my bow. 🙂
But when I put it up, it seemed like it was missing something.
Glitter!
Heidi Swapp’s glue and glitter are awesome for this kind of thing. The glue is thick and doesn’t run.
Then I decided I needed something for it hang on, and luckily I had just the thing! Last summer I found about 25 shaker panels in the dumpster by my house. The dumpster! Can you believe it? They seemed perfectly fine so naturally my dad got in the dumpster and I loaded them into my brother’s truck. My husband was mortified, but it was basically half of a perfectly good kitchen! So anyway, I’ve been using them periodically for trays and other projects, and this was another perfect use! I just added a hook and it was finally done!
Here is my friend’s – she used scrap beadboard for the top, isn’t that fun? I love it hanging on that cool hook on the front porch.
I haven’t decided where to put mine yet. One option is this cart outside my kitchen:
Or by the fireplace.
Or in my entryway, which is my current fave after trying a few options because I’m sometimes Type A and have to consider all.the.options.
Or entryway with different styling since my kiddos will probably mess with the sunflowers.
Happy weekend!
