Last year we did a dot painting activity at MOPS. Here is mine.
When it is finished it will say: “Your Special Day,” and I will bring it out for birthdays, special occasions, etc.
But no time for my own projects, I have gifts to make!
Martha has a dot painted china tutorial and design templates to print, so I checked those out. You just need a dish (you can get these at the dollar store), tracing paper, paint, a ball-point pen and toothpicks to get started.
It’s a gift for my grandmother and she loves birds, so I went with that design. My husband makes fun of me because I always default to birds for her, but I just can’t help it.
I started making the individual dots on the tracing paper and it took forever so I switched over to just tracing a line (it was like connect the dots) and then I free-handed the dots on the line when I painted.
I was paranoid it wasn’t going through so I kept checking.
When it came to dot painting time, I just used toothpicks.
When it was done, the bird looked sad and bare, so I decided to do a dots as border. But then that looked weird.
So then I added some green. But it still looked weird.
And finally when I added the black it looked better. Whew!
I used a sharpie to write on the back (this is all over Pinterest – write whatever you want on any dish and bake it). Then baked it for 30 minutes at 300 degrees.
I decided to make a flower version as well. Next project: a mug!
Thanks for stopping by Day 11 of the 12 Days Homemade Holiday Gifts series!
